F.
M. Engineering Services Limited was founded in Liverpool by
the present management during 1985 to provide a high quality
trailer repair and modification service.
The Company established a reputation, initially in the Northwest
which rapidly spread throughout the U.K., undertaking contracts
for many major companies, trailer leasing organisations and
national fleet operators. As a result, in 1990 it was necessary
to relocate the business to larger premises in Wigan, which
also had better access to the motorway network. The Company's
success was, and remains, attributable to a firm commitment
to quality and staff training.
In 1994, the Company's management decided to utilise the
specialist skills and experience of the workforce to offer
a wider range of services to its clients.
F. M. Engineering Services Limited now provides, in addition
to the traditional trailer repairs and modifications, further
products and services including the manufacture of Road Tank
Running Gears, specialised trailers, particularly for the
Cryogenics industry and the manufacture of special attachments
for construction equipment.
A key element in the company’s success has been the close
working relationships it has developed with its clients to
serve their needs, which is brought about by understanding
their business. In many instances we see ourselves as an extension
of our customers business. F.M.E. believe that the forging
of true partnerships to achieve a common goal brings long
term benefits for all concerned. Our total support, with a
commitment to achieve what the customer needs is always at
the forefront of our minds.
Quality Control is at the heart of the F.M.E. culture. It
is relentlessly pursued from basic services which may be
offered
to a major build of equipment. By accommodating the best
practices in manufacturing and paint finishing techniques
as laid down
in the company's procedures manual for ISO 9002, downtime
to our customers has been minimised.
Recognising
the importance of customer support F.M.E offer a 24 hour
service to minimise Fleet Operators operational downtime.
In 1999 as the range of products and services increased the
Company purchased its current 5.5 acre site to provide a purpose
built 16 bay commercial vehicle workshop for maximum length
trailers . Recognising the high value of customer’s vehicles
the site has been equipped with CCTV and 24 hour manned security.
Through local recruitment the workforce was expanded by over
200% to accommodate for the increase in customer demand. The
new facility in St. Helens now offers a complete "one stop
shop" for any trailer operator, from routine servicing and
repairs, manufacture of new running gears and trailers, to
shot blasting, finish painting and graphics.
Having now invested over £2 million and with a financial
growth of over 50% in the last two years, the company’s investment
in people, coupled with the on- going expansion of the works
facility will ensure that as fleet operators and owner drivers
become aware of how we can serve them, the business will be
able to accommodate their growing needs.
